Goose Creek, South Carolina – A methlab fire on Thursday claimed the lives of three people, including Sammy Garbe, 4 years old, Morgan Abernathy, 19, and Joseph Raeth, a 69-year-old retired veteran.
Morgan was babysitting her cousin, Sammy, at the time of the fire, a fire that investigators believe was caused by a methlab fire started by her father, Shonni Segrest Abernathy, 39, and Jerald Edward McCabe, 33.
Abernathy was arrested on Tuesday, before his daughter’s funeral.
Jerald Edward McCabe, 33, has also been arrested and is facing charges connected to the fire.
A 911 call recorded the panic that ensued after the fire, as residents of the apartment complex evacuated the building. Sadly, three of those residents lost their lives that day.

Shonni Abernathy, one of the men accused of causing the methlab fire, reportedly posted a picture of himself on Facebook standing near metal containers, sporting a Hazmat suit and wearing a gas mask.
On Saturday, two days after his daughter’s death, he wrote a Facebook message that said, “Missing u soooo much. I love u with all my heart. I wish to god i could trade places with u.”
