A new Illinois law adds new buying restrictions on two ingredients used to make meth. Anyone who has a conviction for meth offenses or anyone violating The Methamphetamine and Community Protection Act or The Methamphetamine Precursor Control Act will no longer be allowed to purchase, possess, or have under his or her control “any product containing pseudoephedrine unless prescribed a physician” or “any product containing ammonium nitrate.”under his or her control any product containing ammonium nitrate.”

Additionally, Illinois Public Act 97-0560 requires that there be “procedures to provide notice to the Department of State Police of the release or discharge of persons convicted of violations of the Methamphetamine Control and Community Protection Act or a violation of the Methamphetamine Precursor Control Act. The Department of State Police shall make this information available to local, State, or federal law enforcement agencies upon request.”

12) if convicted of a violation of the Methamphetamine
    Control and Community Protection Act, the Methamphetamine
    Precursor Control Act, or a methamphetamine related
    offense:
            (A) prohibited from purchasing, possessing, or
        having under his or her control any product containing
        pseudoephedrine unless prescribed by a physician; and
            (B) prohibited from purchasing, possessing, or
        having under his or her control any product containing
        ammonium nitrate
