Sometime in or around April of this year there was a town house that was busted for a “shake and bake” meth lab that was in operation for about 3 months. The town house is two doors down from my town house. The place is just now being cleaned out by professionals and we were told today by one of the people cleaning up, that it is through all of the town houses that are connected to that one, but it was told to us on a “hush-hush” basis. They said that all of the air ducts are connected together through the whole building.
During the time that it would have still been in operation, I don’t remember any smells coming into my house when the air kicked on. They tested the house between the meth house and my house and it tested positive for meth in the walls and everything. He has tried to get the landlord to put him in another house in a different building or to let him out of the lease and they refuse. He has hired a lawyer and is suing the landlord.
We were never told anything by our landlord about possible contamination, because of course, they don’t want us to know because it’ll just end up costing them more money. I do have headaches from time to time, but I have always had headaches and sinus problems. What concerns me most is that I have been trying to get pregnant since February and haven’t been successful and am just wondereing if that meth lab has something to do with it or if it’s just me or my husband. I don’t know if the amount of meth that could have traveled through the air ducts is enough to actually harm us or if it’s nothing to worry about. It doesn’t seem like we have had any symptoms, but I’m one of those peoplse who ignores pain and aches until they become unbearable and I HAVE TO go to the doctor. I don’t know what to do. I have a feeling if I go to the landlord and request my place to be tested that they will blow me off and say that there’s no way my place is contaminated and I know if they didn’t let my neighbor out of the lease they won’t let me out either.
What’s worse is that the people on the other side of me know nothing about this possible contamination and they have a 1 yr old baby. I don’t know where to start or what to do. Would contacting the DEA help anything?

I clean these kinds of labs for a living you are in zero danger of it cosing you not to be able to get pregnant. Also if you want to get the place tested look online for a environmental hygienist in your area have him come test the place form contamination it would take hime 30 minutes tops he would just take some composit samples from your walls and if you live in a state thats regulated on what’s contaminated and what’s not like NC for example then you could definitely sue your land lord.
Meth Lab Homes
Amy,
Call your local health department and tell them about the situation, including the fact that you’ve been getting headaches and sinus problems and your neighbor’s apartment tested positive for meth. Please let them know that your neighbor has a 1 year old baby too! If the home next to you tested positive for meth, there is a chance that the contamination could also be in your apartment. The only sure way to find out, is to have it tested. You might also want to talk to your neighbor with the baby about the situation or leave them a note letting them know there was a meth lab bust in the building. Ask them to take a look at methlabhomes.com, so they can learn more about homes contaminated by meth and the chemicals used to make it.
Regarding your concerns that your exposure to meth lab chemicals may be preventing you from getting pregnant, all I can tell you is that research has shown that meth lab chemicals can effect the reproductive systems in both men and women. However, that doesn’t mean that your delayed pregnancy is being caused by your exposure to the chemicals from your neighbor’s meth lab. You would need to get your home tested to find out what the levels of the chemicals are in your home and start from there.
Best of luck to you!
