National Guard members from Indiana, Oregon, and West Virginia, are among the other U.S. soliders and civilians who have filed lawsuits against KBR, Inc, a company that they say failed to protect their health, while they were working at a water treatment plant for them in Iraq in 2003. New Hampshire: Feds arrest 11 for manufacturing meth

August 12, 2009 – Nashua, New Hampshire Meth Labs Found: Federal agents announced today that they have arrested 11 people believed to be involved with manufacturing meth in portable meth labs in southern New Hampshire. The suspects include NH residents of Nashua, Candia, and Manchester as well as three suspects who live in Massachusetts.

Meth Lab Found in Tulsa State Services Building

Tulsa, Oklahoma (August 10, 2009 ) The Tulsa State Services building became a Hazmat scene yesterday morning, when city workers found a meth lab at the bottom of a stairwell located in the building’s south side. Workers were unaware of what they’d found and decided not to handle it the situation themselves. A Hazmat team was called in to remove the meth lab from the building.
Although the portable meth lab was safely removed without incident, Lt. George Brown Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was outraged that someone would put so many lives at risk.

Nebraska still lacks meth lab clean up standards and disclosures

Despite a 2006 law, that directed Nebraska health officials to develop meth lab clean up standards by July 2007, the state still does not have clean up standards in place, nor does it require home sellers to disclose their home’s history. Former state senator Ray Aguilar of Grand Island expressed his concern that the standards had still not be created by the state, noting that without regulations in place, the law he helped pass, fails to do what it was designed to do – protect the health of the public.

Fostoria Ohio receives funding to demolish homes

Fostoria Ohio legislators hope to clear the city of foreclosed and vacant homes by using the $590,000 they received from funding from the federal government’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Tiffaney Shaver, Zoning Inspector, and the town of Fostoria hope to use the money to demolish 26 properties that they feel are bringing down the values of surrounding residences.
