Florida: John Osborn and Tessa Wagy have been sentenced to 110 years in prison for a meth lab explosion in their home that nearly ended their daughter Johnna’s life.
John Osborn was sentenced today to 60 years in prison, despite the fact that he still denies that the explosion and fire was caused by a meth lab. His three day trial ended today after a jury spent ninety minutes to come up with a guilty verdict. Bay County Florida Judge Deedee Costello gave Osborn the maximum sentence of sixty years that included 30 years for manufacturing meth plus 30 years for child abuse.
Tessa Wagy, Johnna’s mother, was sentenced to 50 years in prison two weeks ago, after she rejected a plea deal that would have reduced her sentence to 15 years. Terms of that plea deal required that she testify against John Osborn. Wagy’s failure to testify against John Osborn resulted in a 30 year sentence for her involvement in meth manufacturing plus 20 years for child abuse.
Johnna Osborn, who was fourteen months old when the explosion occurred, was brought in to the court room today by Pam Busbee, her grandmother. She still bears the scars that she will likely carry with her for life. Due to the explosion that caught her playpen on fire, forty percent of Johnna’s body was burned. Seventeen percent of her injuries were third degree burns. Busbee told the jury that Johnna has received speech therapy and is still undergoing physical therapy. She added that therapists are concerned about her left arm and hand. John Osborn wiped tears from his eyes as Busbee took his daughter Johnna out of the courtroom.
