Does cleaning a house really well remove meth from home?

October 14, 2009 by Meth Lab Homes · 6 Comments

I just moved into a trailer that my boyfriends cousin lived in before us. they got busted for meth about a month ago. We had no idea that they were doing that stuff. Well I had no idea that the chemicals stay in the house after they get the labs out.

I have a little baby and we have been in the house for about a week now, but I’m starting to worry. We cleaned the house really good but does that get rid of everything? Can you please give me some advise I’m scared for my childs health.

  1. Little Town,

You mentioned that your boyfriend’s cousin was arrested on meth charges, but was he also operating a meth lab in that trailer? If he did use the home you’re living in to make meth, I recommend finding another place to live as soon as possible. Why risk your baby’s health or your own or your boyfriend’s?

The only sure way to tell if it’s still contaminated is to have it professionally tested, which can be expensive depending on where you live. Most of the time, the cost of having a trailer decontaminated exceeds the value of the trailer.

Maybe your boyfriend should ask around to find out if his cousin ever made meth? The police, may or may not know, if his cousin made meth. They may only know that he used it. If they caught him making meth in that house, it should have quarantined so that no one could live there until it was decontaminated. However, that doesn’t always happen. Other times, signs posted on contaminated homes “get lost” and the police and health departments don’t often have the manpower to keep track of whether or not anyone is living in a home they’ve quarantined.

Read some of the stories of people who have lived in contaminated meth lab homes that I’ve posted on this site, as well as some of the “meth lab signs” that I’ve posted about meth lab homes. It may help you to understand more about what you’re dealing with.

Best of luck to you, your boyfriend, and your precious little one. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to email me.

Sorry to say but according to my research the government has spent milions of dollars to try to clean this stuff up and gave up because it was to costly. It actually get’s right into the fibers of all surfaces and can not be removed. But I am sure there are companies out there willing to take your money and tell you it can be done.

I don’t agree, yes it can be cleaned, but unfortunately, the textiles such as carpet, curtains, etc. must be discarded. Make sure the furnace and ductwork is cleaned and especially the attic. Make sure the insulation in the attic is removed and if the walls/drywall/plaster is removed, remove the insulation also.

Sorry Roy but you really need to read what the government research found and all the people that spent all their money trying to decontaminate theor homes…They tested after the cleaning and found the levils of toxic waist was still to high for humans to live in… FACT!

It is to late for us to clean our home. The bank foreclosed and we lost everything we had. The people named Judy and Max Myers of Churubusco Indiana, whom I may mention own half the town and have money comming out their Ass could not be decent enough to do the right thing and be decent about the situation. I guess that is how rich get rich and steal from the poor hard working class. I still can not see how they can sleep at night. After all they got their money. They should have been the ones to clean the home properly. Before they ripped us off for over $59000.00 and now I as a single mother am done they finished us off my son and I will not ever be able to get back what we have lost.END OF STORY A big thanks to Judy and Max Myers of Churubusco.
