During his jail house interview, John Osborn denied that Johna, his one-year-old daughter, was burned as the result of a meth lab explosion on August 23. Although, he admits to doing meth in the late 80s, he says he doesn’t do it now.
On the day that Johna got burned, he tells the interviewer, he was heating oil on the stove to make french fries. While heating the oil, he says he went to the bathroom, before returning to the kitchen to wash his hands. At that point, he says he looked at the oil and decided to check its temperature, by flicking water in to it from his fingers. It was then, he said, that the oil in the pan caught fire.
With the pan of oil shooting flames towards the ceiling, John said, he picked it up, thinking that he could throw the pan out of the nearest door, but was prevented from doing that because the door had been screwed shut. He then proceeded to take the pan of hot oil out of another door in the house, but tripped, spilling the hot oil on to his one-year old daughter’s playpen that caught it on fire. His fiance, who is the mother of Johna, then removed the baby from the playpen and called 911. News reports about the incident say that neighbors reported that John asked them not to call 911, because there was a warrant for his arrest in Georgia. John then left the area and wasn’t seen or heard from until he got arrested two days later, after asking someone if he could use their cell phone to get help for his burns. John says that the he he turned himself in, because he knew he was innocent. Osborn didn’t mention whether he was worried about his baby’s condition, during those two days, or whether he attempted to find out about her condition.
Sheriff Frank Mckeithen, who has called John a “scum bag” and the “man that born her” alleges that the tragic events of that day, were caused by something entirely different than making french fries.
Sheriff Mckeithen says that Johnna Osborn got burned when a “shake and bake” meth lab in the Osborn home exploded, something that Osborn claims to know nothing about.
When asked about the Mckeithen’s allegation about a “shake and bake” meth lab, Osborn says all he knows about “shake and bake” is that his mother used it to make chicken. Osborn admits to using methamphetamine in the 80s, but he says he’s no longer a meth user, saying that he “likes to eat”.
The News Herald, who interviewed Osborn, also reports that Osborn, says that if his girlfriend tells police that the fire was caused by a meth lab explosion, it is due to the fact that she’s a basket-case right now and will tell them anything they want to hear. She has been charged with the manufacture of meth where a child is harmed, possession of listed chemicals, and aggravated child abuse.
John also says that if the police found any meth lab chemicals or equipment under the floorboards of their trailer home, he was unaware that they were there, citing the fact that they have only lived in the house for a short time. Regarding Benadryl found in his home, he says that he and his girlfriend, used it for their allergic reactions to the Florida climate, stating they both suffered from sneezing and eye problems.
Sheriff McKeithen says he’ll see him in court.

Whether John Osborn is lying or telling the truth about what happened on the day of the accident that burned him and his daughter will have to be decided in court. However, I found this information about body language and deception to be quite interesting.
