Son of Michael Douglas facing meth trafficking charges

Cameron Douglas, 30, son of actor Michael Douglas, was arrested by DEA agents for selling and distributing methamphetamine on July 28, in the meat district of NY, in an apartment rented by his famous father, Michael Douglas.
Prosecutors allege that Cameron Douglas shipped meth by FedEx across the country in exchange for thousands of dollars in cash. In this recent incident, they allege that Douglas was a middleman involved in moving a half-pound of meth from California to New York, where it would be sold. At approximately $18 a gram, the shipment would have been worth nearly $18,000.
According to a news report by the New York Post about the meth bust, when DEA agents busted in to Cameron’s apartment, he was “very strung out” and his apartment was a mess.
The recent arrest of Cameron Douglas is not the first time that he has been in trouble with the law because of drugs. In fact, his drug history began nearly a decade ago when he was arrested for buying cocaine with a lady friend in 1999, while he was a DJ at the Tunnel Club in NY. Three years earlier in 1996, Cameron was arrested on felony charges of drunk driving and a felony hit-and-run accident. In 2007, he was arrested again, when police found a bottle of liquid cocaine and a syringe in a vehicle that he was riding in.
In this latest arrest, one informant alleged that in 2006, he received a FedEx shipment of meth from Cameron, after they had shipped him a cash payment for the drug. Then in 2007, another informant alleged that they gave him $48,000 in a Manhattan apartment, for which they received a shipment from Santa Barbara, California, containing a pound of meth. In the summer of this year, 2009, narcotics investigators say they recorded phone calls between Cameron Douglas, that led them to believe that he was involved with meth trafficking between California and New York. When they found Douglas he had $10,000 in cash and one-half pound of crystal meth in his possession.
Cameron Douglas was taken in to federal custody upon his arrest. His father, Michael Douglas, is “furious”, according to news sources.
