Realtor says demolish meth lab homes

I am a former real estate agent from Cleveland, Georgia.  It is my opinion that meth homes should be deemed uninhabitable and torn down. There should also be a law that anyone caught doing, selling or anything else having to do with meth should have their residences mandatorily tested by the state. If it happens to be an apartment… the whole building could possibly be affected depending on duct work, etc…

There is no excuse for making innocent people sick…. I’m not sure how these things would be paid for – I am not a politician, nor do I claim to be any kind of finance guru…. I’ll leave that for the smart people!   But I do have an opinion on how I think innocent lives could be spared…. condemnation.

Thank you,
S.B.

And what if the house they live in is owned by someone else?

  2. The problem with demolishing meth lab homes is only about 1 in 10 homes where meth is manufactured is ever busted, leaving 9 out of 10 homes open to being rented or sold to an unsuspecting individuals and families.

I agree with you about the duct work in a multi unit buildings though. The fumes can travel throughout the building, which increases the number of people who can get sick from the chemical fumes.

I have a question what if you are the landlord and you evicted them and then word from the neighbors lead you to believe they may have been making meth, is there a way to actually test for it? I have photos that omg, put the ones I just viewed to shame.

      • Have you been inside the house or apartment? You mentioned that you have pictures? Are there chemical containers in the house??? Do not go back in to the residence. Call the police and tell them what you’ve heard from the neighbors. They can search and investigate the house and send in a HazMat team to safely remove the chemicals, if there are any present.

If someone told you that they suspect or know that one of your renters was making meth, then you are dealing with a very dangerous situation. Chemicals used to make meth are volatile and can explode without warning. I have heard about meth lab explosions that occurred simply because someone turned on a light switch! Some of the chemical ingredients used to make meth are also caustic and can burn you severely if they get on your skin. If your renter cooked meth in the apartment, there are also chemicals in the air and toxic residues remaining on every surface and item that is still left in the apartment or house.
