Franklin, Indiana: Families with children homeless after neighbor makes meth

A meth lab bust in Franklin, Indiana had some of the classic signs of a meth lab. The meth cooks didn’t want anyone to know what was going on. Occupants of the building reported seeing their neighbor’s door covered with a blanket and a “do not disturb” sign displayed. But when the fumes began filling their apartments, they really knew that their neighbors were up to “no good”.

Reports about the bust say that the fumes were so strong that some residents of the building, located off Interstate 65 and State Road 44, had to be taken to the hospital.  Some of those tenants were children, including a 2 month-old baby, who lived in the same apartment building with her mother and a pregnant woman. Two other small children also lived in the apartment where the meth was being cooked. A total of 7 children lived in the apartment complex.

Three grams of methamphetamine were seized in the apartment and an active meth lab were found by investigators.

Tori Adams, Jeremiah Burris, Joseph Burton and Candice Harris were arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine,  and child neglect.

Burton and Harris, parents of the children found in the meth lab home have been placed in state custody.

News reports say that residents of the apartment building will not be allowed back in to their home for at least 10 days. They were evacuated from the building with only the clothes on their backs and are not being allowed back in the building for any reason, even to grab their cell phones. The Red Cross has paid for them to stay in a nearby hotel for 2 days, leaving them at least 8 days without any place to live.
