60 Minutes Sergeant Bill

5174beaivbl_sl160_60 Minutes – Sergeant Bill (November 2, 2008)

Bill Jakob rode into Gerald, Missouri, and told the police chief he was from a federal task force, sent in to help clean up the town’s drug problem. Sgt Bill — gun and badge in hand — then took part in as many as 20 arrests and won the admiration of the town’s understaffed police department.

Waving a badge he bought on the Internet, Bill Jakob fooled a small town’s officials into granting him the authority of a law enforcement officer.

Just one problem: Sgt. Bill is neither a police officer nor a federal agent. He is a con man, and Katie Couric asks him about his hoax.
