Sequatchie County Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock told The Chattanooga Times Free Press that the one pot method of making meth was the cause of the explosion that required Stanley Stewart to be air-lifted to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nasville. The explosion that occurred Friday night at about 6:30 pm. resulted in Stanley sustaining burns so severe that he is expected to remain in the hospital anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, according to Sheriff Hitchcock.
The explosion according to reports about the incident say that Stanley Stewart, 24, Cynthia Morgan, 20, and Juanita Gray, 42 were trying to cook meth using anhydrous ammonia and the one pot cooking method. According to information that I obtained from the CDC, Stewart is lucky to be alive. The CDC warns the public that anhydrous ammonia, a strong alkali can freeze your skin instantly if the liquid comes in to contact with your skin. Anhydrous ammonia can also cause blindness, lung damage, burns, and death.
Once Stewart leaves the hospital, he faces meth manufacturing charges tied to the explosion on Friday night as well as meth manufacturing charges from an earlier meth lab bust.
