TN meth cook air lifted to burn center after meth lab explosion

According to neighbors, the meth lab explosion sounded like the blast of a gun shot going off. But when police arrived to investigate the scene, they discovered that the sound was actually that of a meth lab explosion that happened at 99 Fescure Road, just outside of Dunlap, TN. Firefighters who arrived at the scene were able to limit the fire to a bedroom in the trailer. The explosion occurred around 6:30 pm, neighbors say.

Cynthia Morgan and Stanley Stoney Stewart were inside the meth lab when it exploded. Stanley Stewart was so badly burned that he had to be life-flighted to Vanderbilt.  Once firefighters got the fire under control, Hazmat teams took over and removed hazardous material that remained at the scene.

Both Morgan and Stewart have been charged with manufacturing meth and the initiation of a process to manufacture meth. Another suspect is being questioned. Sequatchie County Deputy Paul Howard commented that the suspects had a history of being involved in this type of incident. Howard also commented that meth labs are rising again in the area, reversing the downward trend they had previously been experiencing.

In another fire in Powells Crossroads, 18 firefighters from Sequachie County, Whitwell, West Valley, Crossroads and South End departments tried for 2 hours to save a home that was fully engulfed in flames. But despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the home. Damage to the property has been estimated to be somewhere in the $100,000 range. Fire Chief Ryan Meeks noted that there were several expensive TVs inside. Meeks attributes one reason for the loss of the home was a lack of manpower. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, although the fire is believe to have started in a bedroom. No one was home at the time of the fire.
