Louise,

The county health department should have a record on file if the home was busted for meth. You have the right to request public records, particularly when the record involves your own home. In the case of the Alkanini's however, the health department gave them the "all clear". To add insult to injury, they can't sue the health department for giving them false information because government agencies have immunity from lawsuits. As far as the police department is concerned, call the Sheriff's office in your county. And then there's the "contact your local tv station route" to ask them to help you track down the information you need. :)

I agree with you about banks, wholeheartedly. Banks should be held to the same standards that home owners are about disclosing if a home was used to manufacture meth. Absolutely. Anyone who is selling a home should have to disclose facts that can make others seriously ill. Period. Sounds alot like a bank bailout plan to me.

When banks are allowed to unload property on to innocent families, knowing that the home is considered a hazardous waste site by the government, that is a crime in my opinion. Has our society become so infatuated with money that the health and well-being of innocent men, women, and children is worthless? Banks that sell homes full of toxins without telling them is just wrong, on so many levels.

Through my research I have found it is true that the statement that banks do not need to report the contamination even though they are aware of it. This needs to be changed. When I contacted my bank, they replied "It's up to the buyer to find out these types of things, we just provide the financing." Why should homeowners be the only ones who get stuck, especially when it's so difficult to track down which fire/police department responded, where the report is filed, etc., when it hasn't been disclosed by the buyers? BUYER BEWARE.
