Illinois Sheriff helps those living in foreclosed homes
October 8, 2008
Sheriff Tom Dart says that as of tomorrow, Oct. 9, said that he won’t get involved with evicting anyone from their home. According to the USA Today story, Dart has refused to get involved with evictions because he says that his deputies have no way of knowing if the eviction notices they’re serving to residents are justified. He suspects that some people may have been paying their rent on time, but are being served eviction notices that are due to the landlord not paying the mortgage on the property.
Mortgage foreclosures have gone through the roof or the sky, some might say, in recent months and weeks in Cook county, according to Sheriff Dart. Dart expects that will continue to rise and he’s decided not to be a part of putting innocent people out of their homes.
