“The potential exists, however, for domestic labs to re-emerge as the primary meth production source. Super Meth Lab blows up in Madeira County, California

October 27, 2008

A 33 year old, Mexican national, is said to be responsible for a meth lab explosion in Madeira County, California. When firefighters arrived at the home, they discovered that the fire had originated in two sheds behind the house. The sheds were being rented by the Mexican meth cook. The lab was capable of producing hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine according to investigators. The location of the lab was on Avenue 16 1/2 just east of Road 16.

According to CBS 47 TV, “Hazmat and environmental crews had to wait over two days to access this site because of toxic conditions and dangerous contamination. The materials inside the sheds even affected how firefighters attacked the blaze because if they douse the flames with water, the poisonous materials would seep into the ground. It is estimated that at least four 55-gallon drums worth of soil will have to be removed from this site because of contamination.”

The owner of the property and the person renting the home both said they had no idea that the sheds were being used as meth labs. The owner of the property will now be responsible for the demolition and may be responsible for paying for some of the cleanup. Madeira County will pay for the initial cleanup of the property which is said to be about $25,000. Any additional cost for cleanup will be handed over to the owner of the home. CBS 47 says this is the third meth lab explosion in Madeira County in the last six years.

What happens when a meth lab explodes

October 27, 2008

Meth cooks face an ever present danger. Meth labs explode. But what happens after the explosion? Anyone in the home, including children and pets, face the risk of getting serious burns and breathing in deadly toxins, toxins that can burn their lungs, cause brain damage and cancer, and other serious health problems. Well, that’s what happens to the lucky ones, anyway. The others lose their lives.

But, meth cooks aren’t the only ones that are put at risk when a meth lab explodes. Once the explosion ends, the fire and the rescue efforts begin. To the firefighters, EMTs, and all who are willing to risk their lives to save others, thank you!

National Clandestine Meth Lab Registries

October 27, 2008

The following link will take you to the list of clandestine meth labs that are on record with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. If a home or apartment that you are thinking about buying or renting has not been recorded by the DEA, DO NOT assume that the home was never used as a meth lab.  The government does not require states to provide them with meth lab bust information, so these lists should not be considered complete.

*If you are searching for a meth lab home on the Internet, keep this in mind:

Be suspicious of any websites that tell you that they have a complete listing of meth lab homes in the U.S.!  THERE IS NO SUCH THING! Meth labs crop up every minute of every day somewhere in America!

NEVER buy or rent a home, based on the fact that it was not listed on any websites that you’ve found on the Internet! If you do, you are at risk of buying a contaminated home that can hurt both your family’s physical and financial health.

If you need help with a meth lab home situation, email us your question(s) and we’ll do our best to help you protect yourself and your family. We don’t want what happened to us to happen to anyone else!

Meth Lab Seizures in the U.S.

October 22, 2008

Over 50,000 meth labs have been reported to the DEA by county Sheriff’s offices since 2003.

All information given to the DEA by counties in the U.S. is strictly voluntary. Voluntary submission of meth lab data means that most meth labs are most likely not going to be reported to the DEA.
