An investigation about forged prescriptions led police to the 33800 block of Lincoln Drive in Yucaipa, California, where they discovered glass tubing, chemicals, and a white powder – items typically found in a home or other property being used to make meth. But, something besides meth was being manufactured in this home, something that now raises further concerns about contaminated homes.
The occupants of the Yucaipa home, police deduced, were making a hallucinogenic drug called mescaline. Mescaline is produced by using fluid extracted from cactuses that when processed in to a power form, can be smoked or ingested when the drug is put in to gel-caps. The home was surrounded by 200 cactuses, giving the occupants easy access to a necessary ingredient to manufacture mescaline, as easily as a meth cook manufactures methamphetamine. Mescaline, however, is not as popular as methamphetamine, according to police. In fact, the mescaline lab was the first lab that police remembered ever being found in San Bernadino County.
In addition to the mescaline lab, the basement of the home contained 50 marijuana plants that had grown to a heights ranging between 3 and 5 feet, with the help of lights and fans that were attached to timers. The marijuana plants have an estimated street value of $175,000.00.
Adam Caward, 24, and his girlfriend, Ashley Clark, 23, who live at the house, were arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana plants and manufacturing a controlled substance. Caward was also arrested on the suspicion that he was forging prescriptions. Clark was arrested on accessory charges. Bail has been set $500,000.00.
