New England sleeps while meth traffickers watch and wait

According to the DEA, the demand for methamphetamine in Massachusetts comes from gay male communities in Boston and Cape Cod. Although, the demand for meth is low in Massachusetts, the DEA sees a demand for meth that is migrating in to the general population. Currently, meth is coming in to the New England area through mail shipments from California and some southwestern states, as well as Colorado and Oregon.
“Additionally, various criminal groups–primarily highly mobile members of street gangs from southern New England and New York City–increasingly are expanding their drug distribution operations into smaller and more rural communities throughout New England.” - National Drug Threat Assessment 2007
When the demand for meth increases in New England, larger supplies of the drug will likely be met by Mexican drug trafficking organizations and Asian drug traffickers who are residing in Canada. As the demand for meth grows in Massachusetts and other New England states, supplies of the drug will likely come from Mexican drug traffickers and Asian traffickers who currently reside in Canada.
New Englanders need to become more aware of the Meth problem that has burdened communities in other parts of the country. It is only a matter of time before it becomes a problem in the Northeast. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Washington, D.C. is now warning northern border states that Ecstasy (MDMA) that is been laced with methamphetamine (meth) is coming in to the U.S. through Canada.
