Beware of buying an auto auction vehicle

June 24, 2008

The number of mobile methlab busts across the U.S. is on the rise. I suspect that the number of meth contaminated vehicles sold at police auctions is rising right along with it. Keep that in mind when you’re buying a used car from a police auction or from anyone who may have obtained the car from an auction. You should also be aware that used car dealers often stock their car lots with vehicles they purchased from auto auctions. Buying a car from a private seller also presents a risk to consumers who may unknowingly buy a car that has been contaminated by meth.

Meth contaminated vehicles that are in otherwise good condition are supposed to be quarantined in TN. Current practices involving meth contaminated vehicles (quarantined property) in TN states that “Any person or party having any right, title, or interest in the quarantined property, including any lien holders must contact a TDEC certified CML Cleanup Contractor and /or Hygienists for proper decontamination and testing.
